Get your flu shot!

Today the senior nursing students hosted Gustavus's annual flu shot clinic! SUCCESS! It ran from 8-4 on campus and my, what fun it was! We were paired up, two to a station and there were about five stations. People filled out their forms and then had 24 students to choose from throughout the day's rotations! I probably gave about 60 injections and it was wonderful to educate the students and staff on the importance of the flu vaccine, as well as to see so many people come and support us! Hooray!

Healthy Food!

I realized I had nothing to eat for breakfast this morning so I stopped into our little co-op to see what they offered. In all my time staying down at school, with the co-op being relatively new, I've never had the chance to step inside. But I went in to pick up some things for dinner last night and going inside just brought a smile to my face. It feels so great to walk in and see colors-- colors of fruits, vegetables, all stocked and organized. Healthy food! What is better than healthy food? And we have God to thank for it! It opens my eyes. In a little over two weeks I'll be venturing off to Barrow, Alaska, where a pound of grapes is $11; a half gallon of Minute Maid orange juice is $18.85; a gallon of water is $9.15....yikes. We are so blessed to have access and resources to good, healthy food!

Feed My Starving Children

Yesterday my mom and I joined the staff from my daycare and we went to package food at Feed My Starving Children. Their vision: With God’s help Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) will strive to eliminate starvation in children throughout the world by helping to instill compassion in people to hear and respond to the cries of those in need. And that is what we did. From 9:30-10:30, we packaged 21,600 meals to send to the children in Haiti! That means we can feed 51 children for 1 whole year! Praise! The MannaPackRice formula consists of dehydrated chicken and dehydrated vegetables, soy nuggets, and the rice staple. When the food is ready to be prepared, it is reconstituted with water. Each bag packed feeds 6 children- at one cup for a serving. Thirty six bags go into one box, and up to 100 or more boxes are then shipped to 70 countries around the world. There are more than 500,000 volunteers working throughout the (to be) seven packing sites in the US. It was SO ENCOURAGING to see so many people- about 50 were in our session- come together and put their differences aside for 2 hours. For 2 hours, we could all work towards the common goal of eliminating the world's hungry children.

So I met with my advisor today about plans for upcoming graduate school, and it seems that everything is finally falling into place! However, I've said that so many times before and, of course, OUR plans never go quite the way we want them to. But God's way always shines through. For once, though, I really feel that the things I'm passionate about are starting to melt away this hard shell I've been wearing. I'm so blessed and thankful and excited for the wonderful and creative opportunities He has in store! Praise be to my God!

This is the Master's program that I am debating at the moment. I hope to work in a residential eating disorder program during school, and hopefully complete my preceptorship hours where I work!
